METRO RTA will celebrate Ohio Loves Transit Week February 7-14, 2021. The statewide initiative celebrating public transportation in Ohio promotes the need for transit and demonstrates how investing in transit benefits our communities.
All METRO services will be free on Friday, February 12, including SCAT, Call-A-Bus, and Northcoast Express.
This year, METRO is partnering with the City of Akron and the Akronite app to promote Ohio Loves Transit. Once users join the Ohio Loves Transit reward offer, they can receive 5% back in Blimps at participating businesses to use on a later purchase (valid on purchases up to $80 with a limit of four Blimps). One blimp equals $1. The offer is valid February 7-21, 2021.
“The year 2020 solidified public transportation is an essential service, and this week is an opportunity for us to highlight our role as a strong, economic engine in the community,” said METRO CEO Dawn Distler. “Additionally, we are proud to partner with the City of Akron to further extend our support to small businesses, many of which are on a bus route.”
“Public transportation is critical economic infrastructure in Akron. We are so grateful to Akron METRO for their support of locally-owned small businesses through the services they provide and now through the Akronite app,” said Mayor Dan Horrigan.
The Akronite app offers incentives and rewards customers with points for shopping at more than 170 local businesses while helping small businesses bounce back from losses incurred due to the coronavirus pandemic. The points, or Blimps, for each purchase can be redeemed for discounts at other businesses on the Akronite app. Download the Akronite app in the App Store or Google Play, link your card, and get shopping!
